FromSoftware shareholders are pushing the studio to produce more sequels to major hits like Dark Souls, but President Hidetaka Miyazaki is pushing back. He wants the team to focus on creating what he calls 'truly valuable games' rather than churning out follow-ups.
Miyazaki satisfied with creative freedom
Miyazaki said in a recent interview that he is generally satisfied with the current development environment at FromSoftware. That environment, he noted, allows the studio creative freedom to pursue original ideas.
The studio currently has only two announced games: The Duskbloods and an Elden Ring port for the Nintendo Switch 2. Neither is a direct sequel to a previous franchise, reflecting Miyazaki's resistance to shareholder pressure.
Miyazaki ended with a message for fans, assuring them that FromSoftware will continue to work harder than ever to create truly valuable games. The company's direction remains focused on quality over quantity, despite external demands.
