Epic Games is rolling out major experimental changes to Fortnite Zero Build on May 14. The update introduces a new Pocket Items system that replaces the Build button. Players will start matches with a Pistol, a Small Shield Potion, and a Pocket Item. The three Pocket Items available at launch are Shockwave Grenades, Med Mist Grenades, and Shield Bubbles.

Lethal fall damage has been removed. A fatal fall now triggers a Splat animation, dropping health to 1 HP and removing all shields and overshield. Glider Redeploy returns from elevated positions. The pickaxe grants unlimited stamina. Eliminations restore Overshield. Environmental structures take less weapon damage. Reboot Van timers have been reduced.

The changes are temporary for the remainder of Season 2. According to Insider Gaming, the modifications are an experiment for the future of the mode and are not permanent.

Epic Games has not confirmed whether these changes will return in future seasons.
