Epic Games released Fortnite version 42.10 on September 3, bringing significant performance tweaks and new customization options to the battle royale. Players on all platforms can now access the update, which addresses input lag issues that often frustrate competitive gamers. The patch also introduces Loot Hacks, a new system that lets users modify weapons like the Sweeper Shotgun and Caduceus Staff to fit their playstyle.

New customization system and performance tweaks land on all platforms

The update targets both visual customization and core gameplay balance. Loot Hacks allow for detailed weapon modifications, while balance changes adjust the damage output of existing firearms. Epic Games increased damage for the Pump Shotgun and reduced headshot damage for the Assault Rifle to reshape combat dynamics. These adjustments aim to create a more balanced environment for players engaging in standard matches.

Performance improvements form a key part of this release, particularly for users on specific hardware configurations. The patch reduces input latency when VSync is enabled, with the most noticeable gains occurring on and GPUs running at 60 Hz. Epic Games also optimized Performance Mode to help low-spec systems render at a higher resolution without requiring extra GPU power. This optimization allows less powerful devices to maintain visual clarity with minimal performance cost.

Beyond technical fixes, the update adds several new game modes and seasonal content. Players can access Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt, and Action Hero through new Match Overrides, with Sharpshooter mode arriving next Thursday. Fortnite OG Season X is also included, featuring the B.R.U.T.E. mech, The Meteor, and a new OG Pass. Arenas mode receives updates with Auras, Elite Zadie commentary, and tournament scoring badges to enhance the competitive experience.
