Aniplex, Meteorise, and TYPE-MOON dropped a new trailer for Fate/EXTRA Record. The main focus in this one is the Rival characters. The news is relevant for people who want to be more familiar with the growing roster of characters in the game before the game’s global release.

New trailer showcases rival characters for January 2027 release

Matou Shinji, Alice, Julius B. Harwey, Dan Blackmore, Gatou Monji, Leonardo B. Harwey, Rani VIII, Tohsaka Rin, and their respective Servants are shown in the trailer. So we can get a look at the specific bad guys who will be giving the protagonist a run for his money in the next release.

Paris Games Week 2026 will be hosting a playable version of the game from October 22 to 25. This will give players a chance to try out the rival portion of the game early. Fate/EXTRA Record is set for release on January 28, 2027, on PS5, Switch 2, PS4, Switch, and PC (). The multiple platforms for release mean that console players and PC players alike will be able to play this game at the same time.

A lot of the same topics that were covered in the last update we did for Fate/EXTRA Record came up. So, presumably, the new trailer builds on that mechanical foundation even further with the introduction of the rival character list. Players will get to interact with these new characters in a way that fits with the existing gameplay loop. The rival focus means we might have more depth to the story in the way of challenging the player’s tactics.

The date of January 28, 2027 for the release of the game means that developers will have more time to work on the game on all five platforms. We’ll see how the rival characters fit in with the existing systems when we get to try the game out at Paris Games Week. The fact that the game will be released on PS5, Switch 2, PS4, Switch, and PC (Steam) at the same time shows that they’re going for a wide market. They seem to be targeting the biggest audience they can for the Fate franchise with the multiplatform approach.
