Playground Games shifts the open-world RPG launch window to early next year
Fable is an open-world action RPG developed by Playground Games for Xbox Game Studios. The title will release on Xbox consoles, PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5. The upcoming release will mark the first time a mainline Fable title launches on PlayStation 5.
The updated launch date allows the team more time to refine the game before its global release. Matt Booty, chief content officer at Xbox, stated that the studio feels good about the current state of development and wants to ensure the title receives dedicated attention during its launch window.
Playground Games is shifting focus from holiday 2026 releases to a February 2027 debut. The company plans to showcase new details about Fable at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026.
