FromSoftware has pushed Title Update 1.17 for Elden Ring, bringing immediate balance adjustments and bug fixes to the game. This patch matters because it addresses specific combat mechanics that affect player efficiency and corrects persistent issues for PC users. Buyers who rely on daggers or curved swords will notice faster action recovery, while those using the Great Katana gain a more reliable critical hit system. The update arrives on PlayStation and Xbox consoles at 0:00 a.m. local time on Friday, August 28.

Patch 1.17 brings Tarnished Pack support and combat tweaks

The update introduces official support for the Tarnished Pack DLC, ensuring that players using this content experience the same stability improvements as the base game. FromSoftware also tweaked the Storm Wall skill so that it no longer consumes Focus Points (FP) when used, allowing for more frequent casting. Additionally, the casting time for the Meteorite spell has been reduced, giving mages a slight advantage in combat speed. These changes aim to smooth out the gameplay loop for both melee and magic-focused builds.

Combat balance sees significant tweaks, particularly for parrying and weapon recovery. The patch improves overall parry performance and reduces the time before actions can be performed after activation when using Daggers, Curved Swords, or Small Shields. We also fixed an issue where jumping attacks with Great Katana weapons could be parried, making these attacks more effective. Furthermore, critical hits with Great Katana weapons against large enemies were weaker than expected, and this has now been corrected.

PC players receive specific fixes for keyboard and mouse control issues. FromSoftware stated that they "Fixed a bug that prevented camera control with the mouse during NPC dialogue when using keyboard and mouse controls." The update also ensures that the Reset option now correctly restores keyboard and mouse settings to their default values. We looked at the last Elden Ring update earlier while tracking similar balance and stability themes.

The patch is available now on all supported platforms. Console players can download it immediately upon the release window, while users can access it starting at 7:00 JST on August 28. This update solidifies the current state of the game with the Tarnished Pack DLC integrated. Players should expect smoother combat interactions and fewer control glitches on PC.
