Independent developer Modyfikator89 has released an update to DriftGuard, a utility designed to fix stick drift on Xbox controllers. The new version adds manual and automatic calibration options that write patches directly into the controller's internal memory.

Independent developer releases free utility that writes a permanent patch directly into controller memory to resolve stick drift on all major Xbox controllers

The tool supports all major Xbox controller generations, including the Xbox 360, Xbox One Standard, S, and X models, as well as the Series X/S and Elite V1/V2 controllers. It also lists compatibility with PlayStation DualSense and controllers, but the updated calibration feature has only been tested on Xbox hardware so far.

Modyfikator89 describes this update as a historic breakthrough because the memory-based fix remains permanent and unpatchable by future firmware updates. The utility currently operates through a free standalone website version, while an existing release is expected to receive an update soon.

Stick drift often stems from physical wear on sensors or dust accumulation inside the controller mechanism. Software calibration can assign a new neutral position when movement occurs during inactivity, but it may fail over time if internal components suffer significant damage.
