id Software released a critical hotfix for DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC on July 10, addressing progression blockers and control input errors that frustrated players since the DLC launch. This update matters because it restores full functionality to the Chain Spear weapon and removes a soft-lock bug that prevented some users from advancing in the Hell’s Core level. Players who customized their control schemes will need to rebind their inputs after installing the patch.

Players must rebind controls after the patch restores Chain Spear functionality

The patch, designated as Hotfix 1 for the Revelations DLC, carries the version number 1.014. It targets specific stability issues and gameplay bugs introduced with the recent expansion. The release follows the DLC's initial launch on July 7, 2025, and aims to stabilize the player experience before further content drops.

id Software fixed a bug where the Chain Spear’s inputs were unbound and displayed as question marks. The developer noted that resolving this issue required resetting all player bindings back to default settings. Users must manually reconfigure their control preferences after applying the update to avoid gameplay disruptions.

The patch also resolves a progression-blocking issue in Hell’s Core where dying in combat could trap players behind a red wall. id Software stated they fixed the issue that placed users behind this barrier, allowing normal progression to resume. The team acknowledged that several other prevalent crashes have been addressed, with a full list promised in the future.

Known issues with workarounds include main menu music playing during combat and ability responsiveness issues with the Chain Spear and Shield Saw. Master Arenas levels may still experience enemy spawn failures. We looked at the last DOOM: The Dark Ages update earlier while tracking stability trends, and these recurring balance themes continue to shape the post-launch support cycle.

The hotfix delivers immediate fixes for critical blockers while leaving some minor glitches for future patches. Players should install Update 1.014 to ensure smooth progression through the Revelations DLC content.
