Cyberpunk 2077 just got a mod that reintroduces thousands of unused characters that were cut out of the game by CD Projekt Red. The mod overhaul means that players can experience the full immersive street life in Night City for far more variety. Best of all, they won't need to buy a new game.

Mod adds cut outfits and animations to background civilians

It's also a fascinating look at all the stuff that was cut before the game was released. Now years after, it's very telling as the industry is all of a sudden focusing on a more immersive open-world experience.

The main mod in question is called 'Crowd Variety Restored' from the Nexus Mods user dnbnhlp and it brings back more than 2,200 looks for the NPCs. This means new outfits, color schemes, hairstyles, and even cyberware implants. The mod will be solely on the background population. They'll also skip quest characters to not break the narrative.

That's not all, however, as there's a mod that works alongside it called 'Crowd Walks Restored' that reintroduces all the unused movement animations. You'll see worried, sad, angry, calm, and confident NPCs walking animations that existed in the development stage. With the two mods together, it more than doubles the variety of the stock game's crowd population.

This restored set of content is fascinating when compared to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. Cyberpunk 2077 already had this type of background diversity and variety years before the competition. It shows that it was always trying to be more advanced in the urban simulation department. Immersion-focused players can now see what it really had in mind for the population of Night City.
