CD Projekt RED is returning to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a significant content overhaul and a new expansion. This matters because players who own the title will receive a major visual and technical upgrade at no cost, while new buyers get access to the full experience immediately. The studio is treating the base game as a living platform rather than a finished product.

Players get the Complete Edition upgrade on September 29

The immediate update arrives on September 29 for PS5, /S, and PC. This free remastered upgrade converts the base game into the Complete Edition. It automatically includes the Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions that were previously sold separately. Players do not need to purchase anything to access these additional storylines.

Beyond the remaster, CD Projekt RED announced a third expansion titled Songs of the Past. This new content is scheduled for release in 2027. The project involves a collaboration with Fool's Theory and ties directly into the upcoming The Witcher 4. Development originally started as part of a potential The Witcher 1 remake before shifting focus.

CEO Michał Nowakowski described the remaster as a gift to existing players rather than a commercial product. He noted that the team felt the game was a closed book before these recent developments. The studio cited happy accidents as the catalyst for returning to the franchise. The free update ensures that all owners receive the same enhanced experience without financial barriers.
