Players who missed the original PC release of Carrier Command 2 can finally command the fleet on modern consoles. Atari’s Infogrames label is bringing the tactical simulation to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and the original Switch. This expansion matters because it moves the game from a niche PC strategy title to a broader multi-platform audience.
Tactical sim expands from PC to major console platforms
The console versions arrive as a sequel to the 1988 military simulation cult favorite. Infogrames published the title in cooperation with MicroProse and developer Geometa. The game retains its core identity as a tactical sim that blends real-time strategy with first-person piloting.
You take control of a single carrier ship at the center of a futuristic war across contested islands. The gameplay requires you to gather intel on the bridge, plan attacks, and then deploy forces. You can pilot aircraft, drones, and amphibious vehicles to execute your strategy directly.
Capturing islands expands your logistical network and unlocks new production capabilities. Each island offers unique resources and tactical challenges that shape the broader war effort. The game also supports multiplayer, allowing you to grab a second-in-command to split the carrier’s duties.
Carrier Command 2 originally launched on PC via Steam on August 10, 2021. We looked at the last Carrier Command 2 update earlier while tracking balance and stability themes. The console release brings this command-to-cockpit experience to a wider range of gaming hardware.
The game is now available for players who want to manage complex military operations from the carrier's bridge. You can shift seamlessly between high-level command and direct first-person control. This release completes the transition of the title from its initial PC launch to major console platforms.
