BlackMark Studio has launched open beta testing for Caribbean Legend 2.0 this October, marking a significant visual overhaul for the title. The update shifts the game to a modern Vulkan-based graphics renderer to improve visual fidelity and performance. Players who care about graphical realism and stable frame rates should test this build to see if the technical changes meet their hardware expectations.
BlackMark Studio update adds global illumination and 1000 new objects
The core of this release is a complete port to the Vulkan API, which replaces the older graphics pipeline. BlackMark Studio describes this shift as the foundation for new lighting, realistic materials, and improved sea physics. The developers state that GLSL shader support will make effects more cinematic and better utilize modern video cards.
Technical upgrades include global illumination, cascaded shadows, and physically based rendering (PBR) with roughness and metallic surface settings. The studio has also added screen-space ambient occlusion (SSAO) and Bloom post-processing effects. Anti-aliasing now supports FXAA and SSAA technologies to smooth out jagged edges on objects and terrain.
The update introduces approximately 1000 new environment objects and updates city interiors to match the new visual standard. Sea, ship, and dynamic weather systems have been reworked to align with the new rendering capabilities. BlackMark Studio claims that texture caching and optimized geometry will improve performance and reduce memory consumption.
A new feature called Enterprises allows players to buy land and create their own businesses within the game's colonies. The studio has also rebalanced difficulty levels to adjust the challenge for returning and new players. This combination of visual upgrades and gameplay changes defines the current state of the open beta.
