HANDHELD GAMING

ArmadaOS released a new update that adds Aurora Store integration and dual-screen support for Android applications. This matters to handheld gamers because it expands the library of installable Android apps and improves usability on devices with multiple displays. Users can now access alternative app stores and utilize the full screen real estate of dual-screen hardware without workarounds.

Aurora Store integration and dual-screen support expand Android app usability

The update targets the ArmadaOS platform, which serves as a replacement for Android-based handhelds. It introduces support for the Pocket Micro 2, expanding the list of compatible devices. The software also adds HDR support for several existing models, including the 2 Portal, AYANEO Pocket EVO, AYANEO Pocket DS, Retroid Pocket 6, Retroid Pocket 5, and Retroid Pocket Flip 2.

  • Aurora Store Integration: Added support for Aurora Store
  • Dual-Screen Support: Added dual screen support for Android recomps
  • Turnip Graphics Drivers: Selectable Turnip graphics drivers (Stable, Devel, WinNative)
  • HDR Support: Added HDR support for AYN Odin 2 Portal, AYANEO Pocket EVO, AYANEO Pocket DS, Retroid Pocket 6, Retroid Pocket 5, and Retroid Pocket Flip 2
  • Device Support: Added AYANEO Pocket Micro 2 support

Graphics performance receives a significant boost with selectable Turnip graphics drivers. Users can now choose between Stable, Devel, and WinNative builds directly from the New Drivers section in Armada Control. This flexibility allows users to tailor their graphical backend to their specific hardware and stability needs.

Power management fixes address sleep battery drain on the AYN Odin 2 and resolve sleep wake hangs on the AYN Odin 3. The update also refreshes core system libraries, updating Mesa to 26.2.4, FEX to 2610, Gamescope to 3.16.31-ogc1, InputPlumber to 0.81.0, and CachyOS to 11.0-20261005. These library updates ensure better compatibility and performance for a wider range of software.
