Anbernic has released new, lower-priced variants of its RG557 retro handheld gaming device. The company introduced these updated models to offer a more accessible entry point for consumers while maintaining the core hardware specifications of the original release.
New configurations reduce RAM and storage while keeping the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset and 5.48-inch AMOLED display intact for a more accessible price point.
The new configurations start with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. This represents a reduction from the previous top-tier model, which featured 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The device retains its MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset, a 5.48-inch AMOLED display, and a 5,500 mAh battery.

The cheaper variants start at $229 without including a microSD card. Anbernic has scheduled a price increase of over $20 for these models on May 22.
This move positions the RG557 more competitively in the retro handheld market by lowering the initial cost barrier. The device continues to target enthusiasts looking for portable gaming with modern hardware capabilities at a reduced price point.
