Anbernic has announced the RG Rotate, a new handheld gaming device with a unique rotating hinge. The device is powered by a Unisoc T618 chipset and runs Android. It features a 3.5-inch display with a 720×720 resolution and a 1:1 aspect ratio.

Rotating hinge and Hall sensor

The RG Rotate includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD. It has a 2000mAh battery rated for about five hours of use. The rotating hinge incorporates a Hall sensor that wakes the screen when opened. The device comes in two variants: Polar Black made of ABS plastic weighing 167g, and Aurora Silver made of CNC aluminum weighing 204g.

Pricing starts at 87.99 USD (about $87.99) for the Polar Black model and 107.99 USD (about $108) for the Aurora Silver model. Early Bird pricing is available at 82.99 USD (about $82.99) and 99.99 USD (about $99.99) respectively. The RG Rotate is scheduled for release on May 11 at 6 AM ET.

Anbernic claims the RG Rotate can play games from more than 30 platforms, including PS2, Wii, 3DS, and Android. The device supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, and charges via USB-C. The 1:1 screen aspect ratio is unusual for handhelds and may appeal to retro gaming enthusiasts.
