Bandai Namco has decoupled Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War from Ace Combat 8: Skies Unknown on Steam. This decision has rectified an annoying distribution model that inconvenienced players trying to control their own library. This is a direct response to feedback on Steam's forums and user reviews.
Standalone entry adds 30 achievements and fixes library bundling
Ace Combat Zero has been added as a standalone title on the Steam store. It comes with a separate set of achievements. There are 30 distinct trophies for the game. This enables players to keep a separate record of their progress in the older game, without depending on the newer game's client.
At the moment the publisher is rolling out licenses to eligible owners for the standalone version. The deployment is not immediate. If you pre-ordered Ace Combat 8 or had the bundle, expect the new standalone entry to gradually show up in your account.
Earlier, Ace Combat Zero was only available through the Ace Combat 8 client. There was no way to buy or use it as a distinct product or library entry. The new arrangement gives back independence over the game, while maintaining the purchase history.
