Bungie is updating its approach to handling player exploits in the game Marathon. The developer announced a policy review after a specific incident where a player used a map bug to gain an unfair competitive advantage. This event has prompted the studio to reconsider how it handles out-of-bounds exploitation in the future.

Studio plans policy update after player used map glitch to ambush opponents.

The incident involved a player navigating out of bounds on the Cryo Archive map. The exploit allowed the player to ambush an entire opposing team in the Compiler room. Bungie confirmed that the specific bug enabling this behavior will be patched before Cryo Archive becomes available again.

The studio stated it will communicate more clearly the line players should not cross regarding bug exploitation. Bungie emphasized that it does not want to punish players for accidental bugs but will take action against griefing. The developer also promised compensation for players who were negatively affected by the incident.

Bungie noted that it has not previously taken action against players going out of bounds. The current case heavily affected other players, which led to the decision to review policies. The developer plans to share more details about the updated rules soon.
