stock dropped more than 10% after the June 9th Nintendo Direct presentation. Investors reacted negatively to the console's upcoming game lineup despite a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The company sold 19.86 million Switch 2 units since its release in June 2025, but year-to-date sales for 2026 declined by 30%. A price increase for the console is expected to affect regions outside Japan starting in September.

Investors react negatively to the console's upcoming game lineup despite a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The presentation focused on the Switch 2 platform and its first-party software schedule. Nintendo showcased Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, which launches on September 17. The company also revealed Xenoblade Genesis with a release window set for 2027. A remake of Ocarina of Time received a 2026 launch date.

Nintendo did not announce a new Super Mario Odyssey sequel during the broadcast. Investors anticipated that a prominent Mario release would boost holiday season sales. Shareholders were disappointed by the lack of a new platformer in the console's upcoming game lineup.

The console is encountering challenges related to cost increases and supply constraints. Retailers have implemented purchase limits following a recent price hike in the Japanese market. Ongoing supply constraints for memory components are affecting manufacturing expenses and profit margins.

Shares dropped more than 30% earlier in the year prior to the recent announcement. This latest decline reversed previous gains achieved during a weekly high earlier this month. Market participants are exercising caution ahead of a key sales season with few upcoming major titles from Nintendo.
