Developed by Sega Sapporo Studio, the project is directed by Kenji Kanno. The last main entry in the series was Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, released in 2003.

Crazy Taxi World Tour features a West Coast map. The soundtrack includes music from The Offspring, returning to the series' roots.
