A new leak suggests Intel's upcoming desktop socket may support multiple CPU generations, potentially matching AMD's long-standing platform longevity. The claim comes from leaker Jaykihn, who posted details about LGA1954 motherboards.

Leaker details BIOS ROM requirement
Intel's LGA1954 socket is expected to debut with Nova Lake-S, also known as Core Ultra 400S, in late 2026. The socket is rumored to accommodate not only Nova Lake but also subsequent architectures including Razor Lake, Titan Lake, and Hammer Lake.
According to the leak, LGA1954 motherboards equipped with a 64MB SPI ROM will support CPU generations beyond Razor Lake. This suggests the BIOS flash capacity may be a key requirement for extended compatibility.
AMD comparison highlights shift
Razor Lake is slated for late 2027, with Titan Lake and Hammer Lake also possibly using the same socket. Intel VP Robert Hallock previously hinted at multi-generation socket support, though the company has not officially confirmed any such plan for LGA1954.
AMD's AM4 and AM5 sockets have long offered multi-generation support, a feature Intel has historically not matched. If the leak proves accurate, Intel could close that gap with LGA1954.
