Subnautica 2 has sold 4 million copies in its first week of early access, triggering a $250 million bonus payout for developer Unknown Worlds. The milestone comes just days after the game launched on May 14, 2026.
Court clears path for bonus payout
The game is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S. It reached an all-time peak of 467,000 concurrent players on Steam, according to the platform.
Gross revenue hit $120 million in the first week, according to Alinea Analytics. That figure activated a bonus clause in Krafton's acquisition agreement with Unknown Worlds.
The bonus clause requires Krafton to pay $3.12 for every $1 of revenue above $69.8 million in a month, up to $250 million, as reported by The Korea Economic Daily. Krafton had been in court trying to avoid the payout, but a Delaware court cleared the path.
The sales figures highlight strong demand for the underwater survival sequel. Krafton now faces a significant financial obligation to Unknown Worlds' former shareholders.
Subnautica 2's early access launch has proven commercially successful, with confirmed sales and revenue figures. The court-ordered bonus payout is now set to proceed.
