Sony executives have outlined how artificial intelligence will shape the future of PlayStation games. The company sees AI as a way to tackle projects that were previously impossible due to budget or time limits.
AI as a tool, not a replacement
Sony CEO Totoki Hiroki said AI will enable projects that were out of reach because of financial and time constraints. He described AI as a powerful tool that amplifies human imagination and creates new possibilities. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Nishino Hideaki emphasized that AI will help maintain PlayStation as the best platform for playing and publishing games.
Sony is working with Bandai Namco on a generative AI project. The collaboration suggests Sony is investing in AI-driven development tools.
Totoki stated that AI is not a replacement for artists or creators. He called it an amplifier of human imagination and a catalyst for new possibilities. Nishino said the goal is always to be the best place to play and publish, and AI is a tool to help achieve that mission.
