Nintendo Switch Online Adds Donkey Kong 64 to N64 Library June 4
GAMES

is adding Donkey Kong 64 to its Online service, bringing the classic title to modern consoles on June 4. This update expands the platform's retro gaming library and gives players a new way to access Rare's 1999 release without needing original hardware.

The classic platformer joins the retro catalog with save states and online play features for modern controllers.

The game joins the Nintendo 64 catalog already available through the subscription tier. Donkey Kong 64 originally launched for the N64 console in November 1999, developed by Rare and published by Nintendo. The title is recognized as a highly detailed platformer for its era, offering expansive environments and co-op gameplay features.

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now access the title as part of the existing N64 collection. The addition brings the total number of available N64 games in Western regions to 43 and globally to 45. The service provides an emulated version tailored for contemporary controllers, featuring save state functionality and online play capabilities where supported.

This release marks the first new Nintendo 64 title added to Switch Online this year. While prior additions have featured various classic series, this release is notable for its broad level architecture and distinct interactive systems. Local play accommodates up to four participants, preserving the core focus on collaborative problem-solving found in the initial release.

No new cost adjustments have been disclosed regarding the subscription tier associated with this library expansion. Current members receive immediate inclusion at no additional cost, whereas prospective customers may enroll via regular billing cycles. The publisher is steadily growing its catalog of vintage software, aligning with ongoing efforts to maintain and commercialize older game libraries.
