Hollow Knight Silksong stays $20, industry experts lash out at Team Cherry. Pricing expert Kassia Curran has stated that the game's low price point devalues the game's enormous scale. The discussion brings up the issue of making games affordable and sustaining independent devs.

Expert claims low price hurts indie Metroidvania developers

Hollow Knight Silksong is a major release for 2025 on with a 30 hour campaign. It's a big competitor for AAA games, in a space that costs a lot more to make now. Yet, the same low price point as the 2017 game still stands, even though it's bigger.

According to Curran, a price point of $24.99 is what's needed to help out indie devs who are making similar Metroidvania games. She pointed out that the $15 price tag for Hollow Knight at the time caused some concern in the industry. So the $20 price point for Silksong doesn't take into account the extra effort for making the game today.

Curran was very direct about it, 'Oh Hollow Knight a little bugged me. I'm like 'Oh my god please raise the price a bit. $24.99 would help a lot for a lot of studios making similar games.' This shows the burden that indie devs have to make their case in pricing the game to a wider audience.
