AMD just dropped FSR Upscaling 4.1 for ROG Xbox Ally handheld. It's live now. It's coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles soon too.
FSR 4.1 brings Project Amethyst machine learning to Xbox gaming
Gamers playing on Xbox platforms will enjoy better image quality and higher frame rates from today. It's a boon for those who want to play modern games on their older hardware with better performance.
FSR 4.1 is built on Project Amethyst. It's the collaboration between AMD and Sony. They combine high-end graphics rendering and ML (machine learning) technology.
So, it will enhance game visuals and performance at the same time. It's the same underlying technology we're seeing in PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro solutions.
FSR 4.1 is compatible with AMD Radeon RX 6000, RX 7000 and RX 9000 series graphics cards. So, it's an upgrade for PC and console environments. AMD also announced FSR Diamond coming to next-gen Xbox handheld Project Helix. The future version will presumably add more improvements for the upcoming devices.
According to Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet, there's a longstanding partnership between both companies. AMD has been driving the gaming industry for more than 20 years. From console silicon to major technologies like DirectX and AutoSR, etc. It makes sure devs can get more performance out of the hardware.
