AMD has just leaked a new processor online that gives consumers a sneak peek of their forthcoming Ryzen AI HX 400 series processors. It's important because it helps to show where that mid-range model falls in terms of performance. The current stack appears to be mostly high-end models. This particular leak shows that it would be a pretty well-rounded solution for folks who want a lot of multi-threaded performance without paying for a flagship.
New AMD APU targets mid-range with 8 cores and 16 compute units
Specifically, the leaked processor is the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455. This is a mobile APU aimed at the thin and light market and the small form-factor gaming market. It's based on the same architecture as the higher-end Ryzen AI 9 HX 470/HX 475 but with fewer cores. This lets AMD grab a good slice of the market that wants a combination of efficiency and integrated graphics, instead of just performance.
Specifications
- Cores/Threads: 8 cores, 16 threads
- L3 Cache: 24 MB
- iGPU Compute Units: 16 CUs
- iGPU Model: Radeon 890M (believed)
The Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 processor comes with 8 cores and 16 threads with 24 MB of L3 cache. For integrated graphics, we see 16 compute units. We believe that to be the Radeon 890M GPU. That gives it the same density as the Ryzen Z2 Extreme's GPU which tells us they are aiming for a pretty capable integrated graphics performance for casual gaming and creative workloads.
We're not 100% sure what integrated GPU is in there since the leaker also hinted that it might be either the Radeon 860M or the 880M. But the fact that it has 16 CUs means it's definitely up there with the best in class integrated graphics. We don't know pricing, timing, or any of the specific laptops these will appear in yet.
We got all this info from the leaker on Weibo known as Golden Pig Upgrade. He originally leaked the hardware specs. AMD has a pretty interesting strategy of offering different GPU variations with the same core architecture to appeal to various segments. We can only speculate on the actual graphics performance and power consumption for the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 until we hear more from AMD.
