Owlcat Games dropped some more details on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy that shed light on how character creation will affect your overall experience. Owlcat Games gave us a look at some of the different origins you can have as an Inquisitorial Acolyte, making it clear that your decisions will impact what you do when you start playing. This update gives us insight into the RPG elements that fans can expect when the game finally releases. Now we know how origins impact story and mechanics.

New character origins expand RPG mechanics and story paths

Owlcat Games gave us some more Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy teasers. They are giving us a look at some of the protagonist origins you will be able to choose from in the beta. Owlcat Games let us know that you can choose from a variety of different character origins in the game right now.

Some of the origins you can now see are the Psyker and Astra Militarum. These provide a range of different options when it comes to the core mechanics and story elements.

When you choose the Psyker origin, you will be able to deal with having a link to the Warp. This adds some interesting mechanics to your game that have to do with psychic powers. On the other hand, you can choose the Astra Militarum origin to get a different view on the world. These are the base origins that will help set you up with some skills and story elements.

Owlcat Games let us know that the beta is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to origins. They told us that there will be many more origin choices available at launch. This means there is a deeper level of character customization you can use when you want to go for a particular character build. The game is still on and can be added to your wishlist if you want but there is no release date just yet.

Last time we talked about the update to Warhammer 40,000Dark Heresy, some of the same balance and stability topics came up. This focus on origins is very much in line with that focus on player agency. With this update, we are seeing more clarity when it comes to the RPG elements although we are still getting a lot of mystery for now.
