The platform will be improving its player achievement tracking through a new beta feature called 'achievement sets'. This is important because it finally addresses the age-old problem of messy trophy sets containing both mandatory main story achievements and optional (or even seasonal) achievements. Long-time players who have struggled with their disjointed achievement tracking systems for years will now enjoy a much cleaner interface that properly values their time and decisions. It's a major step away from the "tick-the-box" approach towards a better-structured catalog of your gaming achievements.

Valve introduces trophy categorization and separate DLC tracking in new beta

One major feature here is the ability to segment your trophies into proper categories. For example, you can clearly distinguish between single player campaign achievements and multiplayer achievements. This approach has been developed by to ensure that all relevant achievements are kept together and irrelevant achievements are separated.

The idea is that you can more easily hone in on particular achievements without the distraction of unrelated achievements. Currently, games such as Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Euro Truck Simulator 2 have been used in the beta to showcase this categorization.

Another technical feature is that downloadable content (DLC) is tracked separately from the main game. This means that new content added to your game won't wipe or affect the current achievement tracking. Furthermore, when it comes to DLC you don't have, Steam will not show your public statistics for achievements related to that DLC.

So, only the games and content that you have and are playing will be tracked in your profile. If you want to archive seasonal or temporary achievements, you can without impacting your permanent tracking.

Finally, Valve has changed the name of 'Perfect Games' to 'Completed' in order to more accurately represent what this milestone means. The terminology update ensures that this milestone label properly represents the in-game situation as opposed to potentially implying that you achieved this "perfectly". Currently, the beta supports big titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Crusader Kings III. It gives a good spread of titles to test out the new achievement tracking system for various games across multiple types of platforms and genres.
