One of the sources that was causing more data leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI has shut down operations, giving Take-Two Interactive a break from any more leaks for the time being. This is good news because it means that Take-Two will be able to market the game without the fear of spoiling its final few months leading up to the release of what is set to be one of the biggest games of the year. That means players are going to be able to play the game and not have to worry about seeing major details of the story surface on the internet.

Hacking group ends campaign after fundraising target fails

Cyberleek, the hacking group responsible for the rumors surrounding the contents of the game, made the announcement on Oct. 14 that all leak activities will be ending. Earlier this same day, Cyberleek released video content of the last missions of the game, but carefully avoided giving out the exact story elements. But, with this lull period, the immediate danger of new gameplay footage or character leaks surfacing is gone.

Cyberleek released footage of the final missions before ending their leak campaign.

The reason that the group is putting a stop to the leaks is that the memecoin connected to the leaks did not manage to raise $30 million in funding. A 'dead man's switch' was put in place earlier to leak out spoilers if the hackers get compromised or silenced. Because the group couldn't raise the money needed, they are not going to leak the full build or trigger the spoiler leak.

The group has denied being a token dump. They say the money they raised is not investment contracts, but donations. And the group stressed that they haven't promised any profits to those who buy it. It's also a way to make sure that the fundraising doesn't sound like securities fraud, which is often the claim with these schemes.

Cyberleek put out a statement about the ending of the game. They mention that if the ending gets leaked, it would be detrimental to Take-Two and it would spoil the game for players. They understand the possibility of leaks but do not wish to leak the plot ending of the game, to preserve the experience for players. This is the group's way of saying that the leaks will end (for now at least).
