Grand Theft Auto VI's launch is getting pushed back to November 19, 2026. This is going to totally change the waiting game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players. Rockstar Games has pushed back the title due to an over-estimation of initial non-player character creation expectations that just wasn't doable without sacrificing quality. With that said, Rockstar wants to make sure the game's up to standard and isn't rushed into releasing by some predetermined date.
Rockstar opens dedicated Los Angeles studio to handle non-player character workload
According to development leads Rob Nelson and Phil Hooker, a new standalone facility in Los Angeles was created specifically to tackle non-player character creation. With this new studio model, it's easier to conquer all the work that was initially too much to manage within the initial schedule. It shows that the studio is now changing tack to focus more on what's technically possible than getting to the deadline as soon as possible.
With the new schedule, Rockstar Games can go ahead and perfect the game to the standard they'd like to see it in before it's released. According to Phil Hooker, "We could have hit the original schedule but it wouldn't have been the game we wanted to make." This is a testament to the studio not wanting to rush out the game. Instead, they're using the extra time to make sure the final game turns out to be what they want it to be.
Rockstar Games officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be released on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Ultimately, the team's focus right now is to deliver a quality experience and not stick to an earlier estimated schedule. What does this mean for players? It means the game should be out on that date and up to the standards Rockstar Games holds itself to.
