Modder Interloko has released the first public beta of a fan-made remake for Mortal Kombat Trilogy, bringing classic 90s fighting to modern screens. This update matters because it offers a high-definition experience that respects the original 2D art style while fixing resolution limits. Players who want to revisit the Netherrealm with crisp visuals can now test this project directly.
Modder Interloko releases beta with AI-upscaled sprites and movie-inspired stage
The project transforms the original 2D character sprites into HD assets using AI tools. Interloko designed the upgrade to retain the specific aesthetic of the original game rather than replacing it with 3D models. The beta currently features several HD stages and introduces a new environment based on the latest Mortal Kombat movie.
Core gameplay mechanics remain faithful to the original Mortal Kombat Trilogy release. Combos and fight pacing function exactly as they did in the classic version. The development team prioritized maintaining the original feel over adding new features at this stage.
Finishing moves are not yet included in this public beta release. Interloko released this version specifically to gather gameplay feedback and test stability. The mod is available for download through Interloko's official itch.io page for those interested in testing the current build.
