SEGA is reshaping the long-term value of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds with a major Year Two overhaul. The publisher permanently slashed the base game price and introduced a new competitive 1v1 mode. These changes lower the barrier for new players while adding depth for veterans who want direct rivalry.
New 1v1 Duel Mode and free Bayonetta character arrive November 3
The Year Two update launches on November 3, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. The headline addition is Duel Mode, a dedicated 1v1 system that pits two racers against each other. This mode introduces a Duel Boost gauge that fills over time and with item usage, allowing players to gain speed bursts. Players can engage in offline Rival Duels, online free matches, or ranked Best-of-10 events.

SEGA also overhauls the gadget system with the Grand Master Plate. This new 7th Super Slot accommodates 1-slot gadgets and amplifies their effects for more creative builds. Fifteen new gadgets arrive on day one to support these enhanced combinations. The update also adds three free characters to the roster, starting with Bayonetta, who unlocks via Rival Duel matches on November 3.
The roadmap continues with the McLaren Racing machine arriving later in November 2026. Aigis enters the race with her Palladion Dressy machine in early 2027. Every free character drop triggers a ten-day Limited Time Event Festival for bonus rewards. Post-launch characters now also appear as CPU opponents in both online and offline modes, filling out the competitive field.
SEGA announced Season Pass Two for $29.99 USD, which includes six premium DLC packs. The roadmap features collaborations with Godzilla, EVANGELION, Virtual Sanrio Puroland, and the Persona series. A SEGA Controllers Decal Pack becomes available on October 9, and a SEGA Consoles Pack launches on November 3. Owners of both Season Pass One and Two will unlock the Super Shadow racer and machine.

The pricing structure for the base game has shifted significantly. The Standard Edition dropped from $69.99 to $39.99 USD, and the Digital Deluxe Edition fell from $89.99 to $59.99 USD. A new Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition costs $59.99 USD and includes the Standard Edition plus Season Pass Two. Existing owners should not buy this edition to avoid receiving a redundant copy of the base game.
We saw similar balance and stability themes during the last Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds update, but this expansion focuses heavily on new content and accessibility. The permanent price cuts make the entry point much more attractive for casual racers. The 1v1 mode provides a clear alternative to the traditional battle royale-style kart racing format.
SEGA confirms that the Year Two roadmap extends through 2027 with the Persona pack arriving in Q4. The game remains available on all current and previous generation consoles plus PC. Players can now access the full experience at a lower cost while engaging with the new Duel Mode mechanics.
