spruceOS v4.5.0 arrives with a focus on expanding hardware compatibility and improving offline functionality for retro handheld users. This update stabilizes support for three new devices, allowing owners of the Powkiddy RGB30, RGB20SX, and Miniloong Pocket 1 to run the firmware without instability. Players can now access their libraries on these specific units with a consistent experience.
Firmware update brings offline achievement syncing and new device compatibility
The firmware introduces Offline RetroAchievements, a feature that lets users play cached games without an active WiFi connection and sync progress later. Bluetooth support also expands to include the Flip, Smart Pro S, TrimUI A133P, Anbernic XX, RGB20SX, and Miniloong devices. Users with these controllers can now pair wireless peripherals for a more comfortable gaming setup.
Technical additions include USB Storage Mode for the Anbernic XX and dArkMoss devices, simplifying file transfers between the handheld and a computer. The update also adds a Boot To option for DSi firmware, giving users direct access to that system layer. These changes target specific hardware needs rather than broad platform overhauls.
Emulator performance sees targeted updates with DSperate moving to v3.0 and gpSP advancing to v1.1.0. Development efforts remain active for the MagicX XU20, Zero 28, and Zero 40 models, though these do not receive stable status in this release. The current version prioritizes stability for existing supported hardware over experimental new additions.
