Lego and the Pokemon Company International are expanding their partnership with a new wave of sets hitting shelves on October 1, 2026. This release matters to collectors and parents because it introduces a new interactive technology that changes how children play with the figures. The company is splitting the line into two distinct categories to serve different age groups effectively.

Lego splits Pokemon line into kids' Smart Brick sets and adult collector models
The new products rely on Lego's Smart Brick technology, which uses a synthesizer inside the brick to create sounds on the fly. Lego designers confirmed that they do not record any audio into the bricks, so every sound is generated in real-time during play. This approach allows the bricks to react to other Smart Bricks and create unique audio experiences as children build and interact with the sets.
Lego has segmented the Pokemon line to target specific audiences with different complexity levels. The Smart Brick sets are aimed at a younger audience, while larger collector models are designed for older fans. Designers conducted playtests with hundreds of children to select the debut Pokemon characters, ensuring the figures appeal to the primary target demographic.
A recent set features Rayquaza and Zinnia, targeting deep-cut lore fans who recognize Zinnia from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Zinnia is also known to modern fans for her appearances alongside Rayquaza on Pokemon Trading Card Game cards. We have covered previous Lego Pokemon Smart Play sets in earlier coverage, but this new wave expands the range significantly.
