Nintendo players who miss the local multiplayer days of the Game Boy Advance can soon trade and battle Pokemon wirelessly again. Drewworks has introduced the RetroSync Adapter, a hardware bridge that connects classic GBA cartridges to modern Switch consoles. The RetroSync Adapter reintroduces wireless trading and battling capabilities that are not natively supported by the Nintendo Switch family. The adapter is designed for users who wish to utilize original Generation III physical cartridges instead of digital versions.

Unofficial hardware bridge enables wireless Pokemon trading between Game Boy Advance and Nintendo Switch
The RetroSync Adapter functions as a wireless bridge between Nintendo Switch family systems and Game Boy family devices. It supports the original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and the upcoming Switch 2. On the retro side, it works with the Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Player, and Game Boy Micro. The hardware enables wireless in-game features for specific Pokemon titles without altering the save data on the cartridges.
The device is designed for use with compatible versions of Pokemon FireRed, Pokemon LeafGreen, and Pokemon Emerald. It does not support original Ruby or Sapphire cartridges unless the data is first transferred to Emerald. The adapter also excludes original Game Boy titles from its compatibility list. Users must power the adapter via a USB-C connection, drawing 5V from a standard power adapter or a Nintendo Switch console.
Drewworks announced that the unofficial RetroSync adapter will be available globally in December 2026. The price is set at $50, which equals 4168 rubles. The announced release date of December 2026 is later than typical hardware launch windows, which may indicate an extended development schedule. The device provides wireless connectivity between Game Boy Advance systems and Nintendo Switch consoles for compatible titles.
The RetroSync Adapter enables wireless interaction for players using physical copies of Pokemon FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald. It allows wireless trading and battling between GBA hardware and Switch hardware without modifying the game files. The device will cost $50 when it ships in December 2026. Potential buyers should be aware of the December 2026 release date and the fact that the adapter only supports specific compatible titles.
