Xiaomi president Lu Weibing has predicted that flagship smartphones in China could exceed 10,000 yuan (about $1,467) by late 2026. The forecast is driven by rising costs of DRAM and NAND flash memory.

Memory cost surge drives price forecast

According to Lu Weibing, memory pricing pressure may continue through 2027-2028 due to demand from AI servers. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra currently starts at 6,999 yuan (about $1,027).

Leaks and teasers point to a Xiaomi 17 Max model with a 6.9-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a Leica-tuned 200MP main camera, and an 8,000mAh battery. The device is expected to launch in China around May 2026.

The price increase reflects broader industry trends in memory costs. Xiaomi's comments highlight the impact of AI server demand on consumer hardware pricing. The company has not confirmed final specifications or pricing for the upcoming models.
