A browser-based version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is playable again, reversing a previous removal by Take-Two Interactive. This restoration matters because it gives Mac users a way to access the classic title without native installation or emulation software. The game runs directly in the web browser, offering a convenient alternative for players who prefer not to manage local files or system requirements.

Browser port restored for Mac users without native installation

Take-Two Interactive previously removed the browser-based version of the game due to intellectual property concerns. The current playable state suggests the removal was temporary or that the version has been restored without official endorsement. The restored browser version enables players to access the 2002 Rockstar Games title via a web interface, offering an alternative to native platform installations.

The browser version is functional on Mac computers, according to reports from the developer community. A user known as Suni (@suni_code) highlighted the restoration, noting the unusual nature of a browser port for this specific title. The technical setup requires no local installation, relying instead on web-based execution to deliver the gameplay experience.

The restoration occurred around September 5, 2026, marking a brief window of availability for the web-based game. This event follows previous community efforts to enhance the title, such as the DX11 overhaul with the ImmersiveVC mod. We looked at the last GTA Vice City update earlier while tracking similar community-driven improvements to the game's stability and balance.
