Samsung Display has pushed the refresh rate ceiling for OLED laptop screens to 300Hz, a move that matters because it removes the bottleneck for high-end gaming laptops. This upgrade allows systems to deliver smoother visuals for competitive gamers who demand the highest possible frame rates. The announcement comes from Samsung Display at IMID 2026 in August 2026.
New 16-inch panel sets higher refresh rate standard
The centerpiece of this launch is a 16-inch OLED panel designed specifically for laptops. It features a 2.5K resolution and a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Samsung states this is the first OLED laptop display to break the previous 240Hz refresh rate limit.
The laptop panel supports a variable refresh rate that scales up to 300Hz. This technical shift means the screen can adapt its update speed to match the graphics card output more closely. The company also showcased other prototype displays, including a 7.6-inch foldable OLED and a 20-inch stretchable panel.
Samsung Display also revealed two new QD-OLED panels for desktop monitors. The first is a 31.5-inch 4K display running at 360Hz. The second is a 34-inch ultrawide panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio that also runs at 360Hz. Samsung claims the 31.5-inch 4K 360Hz panel is the first of its kind for monitors.

The company has not yet confirmed specific launch dates for devices using these new panels. Specific peak brightness figures for the laptop panel have also not been disclosed.
