System 3 is bringing the retro espionage of James Pond to modern consoles with a comprehensive collection launching in October. This release matters because it preserves twelve distinct versions of four classic titles that were originally scattered across legacy hardware like the Amiga 500 and Super Nintendo. Players who grew up with these games or collectors seeking rare formats will finally have a unified way to access this specific corner of gaming history.
Collector's edition limited to 6,000 physical copies
The collection is titled The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough and serves as a digital and physical archive for the series. It includes James Pond: Underwater Agent, James Pond 2: RoboCod, James Pond 3: Operation Starfish, and The Aquatic Games Starring James Pond and the Aquabats. The package also introduces a new interactive hub called the Pondverse to help users navigate the diverse library of content.
System 3 is releasing the game for Nintendo Switch 2 in both physical and digital formats. A PlayStation 5 version exists as a digital release after receiving a rating in Germany, though it was not part of the initial announcement. The collection spans versions originally built for the Amiga 500, SEGA Mega Drive, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Commodore 64. It supports English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish languages to accommodate a global audience.
A limited physical edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 is restricted to a production run of 6,000 copies. This collector's item targets fans who prefer tangible media over digital downloads. The release includes modern conveniences such as save-as-you-play slots and controller rumble support to improve the experience on current hardware. System 3 founder Mark Cale stated that the goal is to preserve the unique soundtracks and artwork that defined the series while making the games enjoyable for new players.
The James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough launches globally in October for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The limited physical run for Switch 2 will sell out once the 6,000 copies are distributed. Digital versions will remain available for ongoing access to the twelve included game versions.
