Ventyra is launching a portable wind turbine on Kickstarter, offering a new way to charge electronics when solar panels are not an option. This matters because it provides a compact, lightweight power source for travelers and off-grid users who need to keep devices running without relying on the electrical grid. The R1 system targets the growing demand for versatile, renewable energy solutions that fit into a backpack.
Compact wind generator targets off-grid travelers with USB charging
The Ventyra R1 is a small-scale wind power system designed for portability and ease of use. It features a turbine that automatically aligns itself with the wind direction to maximize energy capture. The device is compact enough to fit into a standard backpack, making it suitable for hiking, camping, or emergency preparedness scenarios where traditional power sources are unavailable.
Ventyra R1 Specifications
- Weight: 2.2 lb
- Start Wind Speed: 3 m/s (6.7 mph)
- Output (Light Wind): 10 watts
- Output (Strong Wind): 50 watts
- Output (Peak/Gusts): 75 watts
The turbine weighs just 2.2 lb and generates power based on wind conditions. In light winds, it produces around 10 watts of power. Strong winds can increase output to 50 watts, with short gusts reaching a peak of 75 watts. The system includes a Power Hub with one USB-A and one USB-C port to charge smartphones and other small electronics directly.
The complete package includes the wind turbine, a stand, mounts, cables, a carrying bag, and the Power Hub. Ventyra has stated that the turbine lacks official IP certification for water resistance, so users should dismantle it during rain. This is the company's first product, which increases the risk of delivery delays or failures compared to established manufacturers.
Early backers can secure the complete set for $159 during the Kickstarter campaign. The price is scheduled to rise to $189 later in the campaign before reaching a final retail price of $300. Shipping is expected to begin in December 2026, giving backers ample time to prepare for outdoor adventures with a reliable, wind-powered energy source.
