The 1999 PlayStation classic Syphon Filter now runs natively on modern PCs through an unofficial port by Madxbio97. Retro gamers who want to play this tactical shooter without emulation software can finally access it on their desktops. This release removes the need for legacy console hardware or complex emulator configurations to experience the original title.

Unofficial port adds dynamic lighting and shadows to the 1999 tactical shooter

Madxbio97 developed this unofficial PC port to bring the 1999 PS1 game to Windows environments. The project targets fans of the original tactical stealth series who prefer playing on a personal computer. It serves as a direct bridge between the vintage console experience and modern PC gaming setups.

The port introduces dynamic scene lighting layered over the original PS1 vertex colors. Lights from lamps, fires, police cars, muzzle flashes, and Gabe’s flashlight now illuminate the environment. Gabe, his allies, and enemies also cast dynamic shadows during gameplay. The visual update enhances the atmosphere while preserving the game's original aesthetic foundation.

The PC port restores the original PS1-style HUD, inventory, objectives, parameters, weapon menus, and map screens. It supports both keyboard and mouse input alongside standard gamepad controls. The launcher allows users to select game images, choose arbitrary internal resolution, and adjust aspect modes. Players can also enable fullscreen mode, MSAA, bilinear filtering, and anisotropic filtering for sharper visuals.

You can download the project from the official GitHub repository hosted by Madxbio97. The unofficial PC port is currently available for free download worldwide. This release follows recent coverage of other retro PC ports and indie developer projects.
