Google has finally resolved a persistent boot loop issue on the Pixel 4a that left many users unable to access their devices. July patch resolves restart crash for affected smartphone users
The problem specifically targeted the Google Play System software component on the Pixel 4a smartphone. Users experienced continuous restarting only when they had location services disabled while keeping Wi-Fi turned on. This specific combination of settings triggered a crash that prevented the operating system from loading normally.
Google delivered the solution through a Google Play System update released on July 1, 2024. The patch addresses the bug that had persisted since earlier in the year. Newer Pixel models ranging from the 6 to the 10 received a similar fix earlier in July, but the Pixel 4a required this separate update to resolve the issue.
Owners currently trapped in the boot loop must use a specific workaround to apply the fix. They need to restart the smartphone in safe mode to bypass the crash. Once in safe mode, users can enable location services before restarting the device normally to complete the installation of the update.
