Gearbox Entertainment has announced Borderlands 4, a new intellectual property focused on the upcoming title. The studio made the public statement on May 3, 2026, confirming their current project focus.
CEO Randy Pitchford addressed concerns regarding artificial intelligence usage within the company. He stated that Gearbox does not use AI for anything in any professional capacity that any customer could ever see. Pitchford defended this policy after posting an AI-generated selfie that bears no resemblance to him.
The studio clarified that Borderlands 4 is scheduled to launch globally on September 11. This release date aligns with the timeline for the new IP mentioned by the vendor during their recent public appearance.
Pitchford emphasized that the AI-generated image was just a dumb, silly thing and should not be taken seriously. He noted that the background words in the selfie were not prompted and have zero relationship to anything real.
