GIGABYTE has updated the BIOS for its AM5 motherboards to support new DDR5 memory chips from CXMT. This matters because the update allows users to install higher-capacity memory modules that were previously unsupported. Buyers with compatible boards can now access 24GB DIMMs, which helps systems with heavy multitasking or content creation workloads.

GIGABYTE's AM5 motherboards now support higher-capacity CXMT DDR5 modules.

Firmware update enables higher memory speeds and 24GB DIMM capacity

The firmware update applies to GIGABYTE's 800 series and 600 series motherboards designed for 's AM5 platform. These boards rely on AMD's AGESA microcode to manage memory training and compatibility. The change requires the installation of AMD's AGESA 1.3.0.1c microcode to function correctly.

Specifications

  • Memory Support: CXMT DDR5 (16Gb and 24Gb chips)
  • Max Speed: 8200 MT/s
  • Previous Speed Limit: 6800 MT/s
  • Required Update: AGESA 1.3.0.1c microcode
  • Supported Series: 800 and 600 series

The update enables support for CXMT DDR5 chips in 16Gb and 24Gb densities. These chip densities translate to 16GB and 24GB per DIMM capacity. The maximum supported memory speed has increased from a previous limit of 6800 MT/s to 8200 MT/s.

Users must ensure their system runs the specific AGESA 1.3.0.1c microcode to unlock these features. The increase in speed and capacity provides more flexibility for memory configuration. Systems using the new 24GB modules will benefit from the increased bandwidth and capacity.

We looked at the last AM5 Motherboards update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up. GIGABYTE's current update focuses on expanding memory compatibility for AM5 users. The change is now available for qualified motherboards.
