Sony Interactive Entertainment vice president Christian Svensson has emphasized the critical role of third-party content for the PlayStation platform. In a recent interview, Svensson stated that without content, PlayStation is 'just a plastic box.' He highlighted that third-party games make up the majority of content on the platform and are essential for industry growth.

Sony VP defends 30% store fee

Svensson noted that Sony has funded over 120 projects this console generation, supporting 10,000 developers. He defended the 30% PlayStation Store fee, arguing it helps maintain a balanced investment ecosystem. SIE CEO Hideaki Nishino also stressed the importance of third-party content, according to Svensson.

Svensson expressed optimism about the future of gaming content. He said he has visibility into games planned for the next three to five years and described the trajectory as 'unbelievably positive.' He stated that last year was an amazing year for games, this year will be even better, and next year will be better still.

The comments were made in an interview with The Game Business. Svensson did not provide specific details about upcoming titles or release dates.
