’s PC gaming storefront is generating record-breaking income that reshapes how we view digital distribution. The platform pulled in an estimated $11.1 billion in gross revenue during the first half of 2026. This figure marks the highest half-year total in the service's history. The growth signals that digital storefronts are becoming the dominant financial engine for the gaming industry.

Platform income exceeds full 2020 totals as new game share drops

Alinea Analytics compiled the financial data for the period spanning January 1 to June 30, 2026. The report highlights a 14.5% increase in revenue compared to the same timeframe in 2025. This growth is particularly notable because it occurred during a period that usually sees lower sales volume than the holiday season. The platform generated 8% more revenue in the first half of 2026 than it did in the second half of 2025.

The financial strength of Steam is evident when comparing it to previous years. The revenue generated in just the first six months of 2026 exceeded the total income of the entire year 2020. This comparison underscores the massive scale of the current digital gaming market. The platform continues to attract a larger share of consumer spending than ever before.

A significant shift in consumer behavior is driving these numbers. New game releases accounted for only 21% of total revenue in the first half of 2026. This share has dropped from 29% in the first half of 2024. Established titles and existing libraries are now contributing a larger portion of the platform's income than new launches.

Top new releases still contributed substantial amounts to the total. Forza Horizon 6 generated approximately $197.7 million during this period. Resident Evil Requiem followed closely with an estimated $194.5 million. Crimson Desert rounded out the top three new titles with $190 million in revenue.

We looked at Steam's financial trajectory earlier while tracking broader industry trends. The data confirms that the platform is maintaining its position as the central hub for PC gaming. The shift toward older titles suggests a mature market where long-term engagement drives value. Steam remains the primary financial benchmark for the digital distribution sector.
