Redditor Khalid developed 12VHPWR Guard as a Windows application that monitors the 12VHPWR connector on specific ASUS graphics cards. The tool currently supports the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080, ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090, and ASUS ROG Matrix RTX 5090. It communicates with the GPU via the I2C bus to read real-time current data from each individual pin in the power connector.

Khalid says the tool was largely 'vibe coded,' meaning he leaned on an AI coding assistant during development. The application leans on HWiNFO's shared memory as a backup if it can't talk to the sensors directly. This free software solution reportedly outperforms paid hardware solutions like the ASUS ROG Equalizer cable and ASRock TempGuard in preventing connector failures.
